Perth, The City of Lights

perth, the city of lightsPerth lies on the Swan River inland from the Indian Ocean coast and close by its sister city, Fremantle. It acquired the name “City of Lights”, after its citizens turned on every light to salute John Glenn who was orbiting in the space vehicle Friendship 7 in 1962 and could see the Perth lights. A repeat performance occurred in 1998, as Glenn passed over again in the Space Shuttle. A walk through the area reveals some stunning modern architecture such as the WA Maritime Museum building on Victoria Quay, the Burswood Entertainment Complex and the Curtin University in Bentley.

What to See and Where to Go
